The story
The Wholesome Loaf started in 2021 after many years of waiting for the right time to share this bread. A former teacher, my greatest passion has always been baking bread and sharing it with those closest to me. After staying home for nine years to raise my 4 children, the time was finally right to share my bread with the local community.
I believe that bread truly facilitates relationships. I have built relationships with local farms and shops to create the breads I bake. I build relationships with my customers. And I hope that my bread helps you build relationships with anyone you choose to share it with as well!
The bread and pastry offerings change weekly. At this time, we deliver locally in *Carlisle Borough ONLY* on Saturday mornings. Breads and pastries are available for pickup Saturdays by appointment only at the Forbes Rd. location. Bread is delivered to People’s Provision’s (2226 Sherman’s Valley Rd, Elliotsburg, PA) on Wednesday’s and Friday’s. Breads are also now available at Juniata River Commons in Mifflintown, PA. You can place an order in advance for pickup or just stop by the shops and see what’s in stock. Please place all orders by 12:30 PM on Friday as the breads depend on a long fermentation time for optimal flavor and nutrition! We are hoping to expand hours and availability in the near future!
Our ingredients
We use high quality organic King Arthur flour as well as locally milled Organic Whole Wheat, Rye, Spelt and Rolled Oats from Small Valley Milling in Halifax, PA. We source the bulk of our ingredients from local farms and specialty shops. We bake with organic seasonal ingredients as much as possible in an effort to keep our breads connected to our rich agricultural community.
